coralbay.tv selected by Whakaata Māori
Leeds, UK, 15th July 2025 – Cloud playout specialist coralbay.tv Ltd announced today that Whakaata Māori has selected coralPlay, coralFlow, and coralMAM to automate the playout of its two channels, plus an occasional pop-up channel.
Whakaata Māori chose coralbay.tv after evaluating competing products on the market. Gabriel Costache, Technology Delivery Manager at Whakaata Māori, commented, “We were impressed with the architecture of coralbay.tv’s products and the modern, user-friendly GUI. They have the core features we need, and the flexibility in hosting was important in our choice.”
coralPlay, coralMAM, and coralFlow are next-generation cloud-native products designed using microservices. They are containerized with Docker and deployed using Kubernetes. The software is optimized to take advantage of the inherent elasticity, redundancy, and flexibility that cloud hosting offers, while also supporting on-premises deployment.
Whakaata Māori opted to run the two channels on standard COTS hardware in their Auckland facility and to host the pop-up channel in AWS. The system supports both clip playout and live inputs, switching between sources as required by the playlists. It also provides live graphics, DVE, master control switching, subtitling, loudness normalization and live recording functions. A compliance recorder is included, which records the output of the channels in low-resolution MPEG4 format.
Hosting the pop-up channel in the cloud enables Whakaata Māori to quickly deploy resources when needed and to easily decommission them afterward, thereby minimizing running costs. The cloud system will also serve as a disaster recovery (DR) solution for the main channel.
To ease the transition from an older playout system, coralPlay supports importing playlists and exporting as-run logs using legacy formats.
Peter Hajittofi, CEO of coralbay.tv, added, “We are delighted to have been selected for this project. Whakaata Māori is a highly popular and important broadcaster in New Zealand, and we look forward to a long and mutually beneficial relationship with them.”
